ITINERARY
DAY 1
Keflavik Airport, Reykjavik Arrival. Optional: Transfer into Reykjavik with a stop at the Blue Lagoon. Overnight in Reykjavik.
DAY 2
Reykjavik – Vik Exploding Geysers – Waterfalls – Puffin Colony – Black Sand Beaches of the South Shore. Start with Reykjavik city tour. Explore Gullfoss, the ‘Golden Waterfall’, nearby Geysir, hot springs, and boiling mud pools. Continue along the south shore. Dinner and overnight in Vik area.
DAY 3
Vik – Hofn. Lava Fields – Europe’s Largest National Park – Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs – Europe’s Largest Glacier. Cross the earth’s largest lava flow on to Skaftafell National Park. Continue to Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon and views of Vatnajokull Glacier. Dinner and overnight in Hofn area.
DAY 4
Hofn – Egilsstadir Narrow Fjords – Steep Mountains – Picturesque Coastline – Mineral Collection. Drive through Almannaskard pass and the majestic coastline. Continue to the towering East Fjords. Explore Petra’s local stones and mineral collection. Dinner and overnight in Egilsstadir area.
DAY 5
Egilsstadir – Lake Myvatn Area Highland Desert – Bizarre Lava Formations – Geothermal & Volcanic Activity – Rich Birdlife – Protected Salmon River. On route explore the highland plateau; stop at Dettifoss, and Namaskard pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colors. View the beauty of Myvatan with its pseudo craters, Salmon River and diverse birdlife. Dinner and overnight in Myvatn area.
DAY 6
Lake Myvatn Area – Akureyri Waterfall ‘Of the Gods’ – Folk Museum – Iceland’s Second Largest City. Start the day by exploring the weird lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Stop at Godafoss waterfall and the old turf farm. Overnight in Akureyri area.
DAY 7
Akureyri – Borgarnes. Fertile Farmlands – Glacial Rivers – Viking Horse Demonstration. View majestic mountains and narrow passes on route to Skagafjordur. Discover the unique Icelandic horse with its fifth gait. Continue to the village of Blonduos and Hrutey Island, a protected nature reserve, and on to the town of Borgarnes. Dinner and overnight in Borgarnes area.
DAY 8
Borgarnes – Reykjavik Europe’s Largest Hot Spring – Picturesque Waterfalls – National Park (UNESCO). Visit to the most powerful hot spring in the world. Explore Hraunfossar waterfalls, before continuing via Hvalfjordur fjord to Thingvellir National Park. Overnight in Reykjavik.
